The power to be the number one in the world in gold medals was underway during the 2024 Paris Olympics. The United States and China went head to head battling for first in the gold medal category the entire two weeks. China was ahead with gold medals, but you can’t count out the Americans. America pulled China into a tie Sunday with a victory in the last event, women’s basketball.
On Sunday, China entered the Games with a 39 to 38 lead on the U.S. in gold medals. The odds were looking good for the Americans going for their eighth consecutive win in women’s basketball to add a gold medal to the count. The United States ended up tying China in the race for gold medals, 40 to 40.
