Mr. McCune Interview
This past Monday, I got to interview our new 2024-2025 principal, Mr. McCune. This interview understandably took a little while to obtain because you can imagine he is a busy man right now. I received an invitation to meet with him in his office. Below is the interview.
Blake: What are you most looking forward to in the new school year as the new principal?
Mr. McCune: I’m looking forward to everything, even though change is scary at times the opportunity to shift some stuff around, I mean we have a lot of stuff that is already good, but being able to tweak some things around to make it even better, I like problem-solving and this gives me a whole other project to operate. I am excited to lead the teachers and students
Blake: What changes would you like to implement immediately?
Mr.McCune: More times with lead groups. Study halls will be grouped by lead group. This will give teachers an opportunity to build relationships and keep the small school feel.
Blake: What is something that you would like to keep the same?
Mr. McCune: I would like to keep the schedule the same, we’re not gonna make big drastic changes in year one. Just some small tweaks here and there.
Blake: How can you describe your leadership style?
Mr. McCune: I believe in building relationships so that people know I care about them and want them to succeed. I’m very relational with that because I believe in expectations and giving them all the tools they need to get where they are expected to be.
Blake: What is something that most of the student body doesn’t know about you that would be cool to let us know?
Mr. McCune: I was actually switched at birth for 1 hour. I’m color blind, I love to read, I love anything with water; fishing, staring at the beach, the water just soothes me.
Blake: Why did you want to go into teaching?
Mr. McCune: I was actually a financial analyst right out of college and I hated that job, on the side coaching Junior High basketball. And I love working with kids and having that relationship with them. Another influence was my camp counselor who led me to Christ. His name was Mike Hayman And the thought of me being able to be what he was to me when I was a kid was a driving Factor.
Blake: What is your educational background?
Mr. McCune: Graduated from LSU With a bachelor’s in finance and a minor in history. This spring completed my master’s degree in educational leadership From Liberty University.
I am personally excited to see our new administration at work. I like some of the ideas that we as a student body have heard so far.
