Valentines Day

It’s the beginning of February and Valentine’s Day is approaching. Now we celebrate Valentine’s Day by giving gifts and cards to the people we love, but where does that tradition come from? The name comes from St. Valentine who was sent to prison for secretly marrying Christian couples. While in prison, he miraculously healed the jailer’s blind daughter. He left her a note and signed it, “Your Valentine” (catholic.org). This is where the tradition of giving Valentines was derived from. Many people think the romantic part of Valentine’s Day evolved from the Middle Ages when it was believed that birds paired in the middle of February. To celebrate Valentine’s Day at Northlake, students bought cookies and singing grams for their friends.
