On Wednesday, September 28, 2022. Hurricane Ian hit the southwest coast of Florida. Maximum winds were around 155 miles per hour. The hurricane was a Category 4 storm causing devastating damage and killing at least 99 people in Florida, and four additional deaths in North Carolina. The main cause of death was drowning, along with vehicle accidents. On Friday, September 30, the storm landed in South Carolina, and no deaths have been reported from that area. Utility companies in Florida say it will take weeks or even months to restore the power in the hardest-hit areas. CNBC estimates the damage could top $47 billion.
