On Friday, August 22, 2025 an explosion occurred at the Smitty Supply manufacturing facility, a major oil company in Roseland, Louisiana. At the very beginning of the explosion 850 people were required to evacuate their homes within a one-mile radius. As of Monday, there are still some homes inaccessible to their owners for health reasons. 90% of the debris and smoke has been contained thanks to great efforts by the EPA. They are continuously receiving debris and oil that is currently spreading down through the Tangipahoa river. It spreads all the way to Ponchatoula, and is raising questions on whether it will reach all the way to Lake Pontchartrain.
