The french meaning of Mardi Gras is Fat Tuesday. This reason is because it is the day before lent, where homes are in preparation for the fasting and abstinence of lent. Mardi Gras is a season of festivals and balls. The largest parade in New Orleans is Endymion, which is the Saturday before Mardi Gras that has about 3,200 riders and 81 floats. Another large parade is Bacchus, which is on the Sunday before Mardi Gras and has 1,700 members and 32 fun floats. A fan favorite parade is Muses, which is an all-female parade. Muses is on the Thursday before Mardi Gras. Another fan favorite is Rex. Rex has been around 146 years of the city’s 300 years. It consists of 600 male riders and 21 floats. This certain parade has a tradition where it selects one member to be the King, which people call King Rex or just Rex.
