What makes food stink? People always wonder why food stinks even though it tastes so good. Chemicals that are released from food have microbes decompose it. This means when bacteria break down dead organisms or animal waste creating that smell. Another way this could happen is when chemicals are produced directly by the microbes themselves. When microbes are made by themselves it means the prokaryotes replicate. Prokaryotes are organisms that lack things, when these microbes replicate it causes the bacteria in your food to start smelling but making the food taste good.
