According to ABC News, shark attacks have become a reoccurring event, causing distress and an uproar across beaches. A girl by the name of Ali Truwit had her leg bitten off by a shark in the year of May 2023, she just competed for the Paralympics this year of 2024. Another occurrence most recently happened on August 9, 2024, when a 15- year old American girl was in Belize vacationing with her family. Annabelle Carlson, was on a diving excursion with the Belize Dive Pro company near Holfmoon Caye in the Gulf of Honduras, when the attack took place. She is now stable and recovering from the attack, with the love and support of her family and her community. The last occurrence is not an attack but on August 8, 2024, a shark was spotted and filmed while being very close to shore. Shark sightings have been more popular and tie into these recurring attacks on civilians.
