New Assistant Principal Mrs. Mobley
My last assignment for the 2023-2024 school year was to interview the new assistant principal, Mrs Mobley.
Gavin– I am here with Mrs Mobley, the new assistant principal. Mrs. Mobley, What made you want to apply for the assistant principal position?
Mrs. Mobley– That is a great question. As a ten-year teacher, I would attribute a lot of my success in the classroom to really incredible principals in my past who have helped me become the teacher I am today, and through their coaching, their proximity, and their help I feel like I have been able to just be a better teacher day by day and I want to be that to other people who I can be a great resource to and support to teachers and I think that ultimately great teachers lead to great students.
Gavin– What are you going to be tasked with as an assistant principal?
Mrs Mobley– That is a great question. I am still discovering some of that as I step into this new role but I will be helping this administration team run daily operations for the school making sure students reach their full academic potential by signing up for AP classes and making sure that students don’t fall through the cracks who may need extra resources and help them. Lastly, make sure our student’s events are wonderful and that our culture stays positive, incredible, and Christ-centered.
Gavin– Do you plan on teaching classes and being an assistant principal?
Mrs. Mobley– Yes, I am so excited that I still get to teach my wonderful Magnify students to grow and learn together. Magnify is the vocal ensemble on campus and I will still be co-directing that with Mr Vega, so I am very excited about that.
Gavin– How do you plan on managing both tasks as assistant principal and magnify?
Mrs. Mobley– That is a great question, I worked really hard the last ten years to make sure I am managing my time really well both relationships and people first and then tasks later for me, I have great productivity apps like Google Tasks and there is a task list called tick tick and those really help me stay on top of all the responsibilities so I will continue to use that to stay organized and my calendars.
Gavin– How do you plan to keep up student morale as assistant principal?
Mrs Mobley– That is such a great question as well. I really appreciate how this year’s administration and the previous administration have done such a great job at prioritizing student relationships above all else. That is what makes Northlake so unique and special compared to other schools and various roles. What I found when I came to Northlake, is that the teachers care, they like the students, they want the best for the students. The administration still has relationships with students, they still pursue students to make sure that they’re okay, they check on them when they’re having a bad day and I want to continue upholding that tradition because it’s such an important value, it starts at the top, the top is thinking, leading, and serving then everyone else is going to follow too.
Gavin– How do you plan to keep up teacher morale as assistant principal?
Mrs. Mobley- I love this question because teachers are so incredibly important and in today’s age it is very difficult to be a teacher. There are so many things required of you, so I think that the teachers know I want to come alongside them and support them and be a resource for them. As opposed to being someone who is checking in on them, and hanging over their shoulder, no I want to be an administrator who supports them and I want them to know I have an open-door policy. I want them to know they can come talk to me anytime, I would love to be a sounding board to bounce lesson plan ideas off of, that’s how I feel I have the most success in my classroom, it is really just bouncing ideas off of administrators that really had an open door policy
Gavin– This is your first year at NCS as a teacher, how do you plan on assuming the role as an administrator?
Mrs Mobley– That’s a great question! Yes, I have been here for one year, but I have taught for ten years. Seeing a variety of ways of observing and seeing how different administrators at different campuses work, I think it’s going to be very helpful for me. I have different examples to prepare and I loved what I have seen here at Northlake, so I think I can bring that wealth of knowledge from my previous jobs and seeing how different schools were structured and having really disliked organizational strategies and liked organizational strategies, I think I can pick and choose what I see works well.
Gavin– In the previous question when I asked about the classes, you never mentioned Spanish. Do you think you are going to be teaching it next year?
Mrs Mobley– I will be notified of this shortly. I am open to doing what is needed but we are still kind of waiting to see how some things transpire.
