Fall sports are starting strong with cheer, dance, and volleyball tryouts being over and new teams forming. Cheer tryouts happened on March 15th with every cheerleader showing off their talents and proving why they should be on the team. Dance tryouts happened on April 19th in the slim gym. All dancers from Junior High and Varsity were called up to show off their skills. There are 3 teams for dance; Jr. High Dance, JV dance, and Varsity dance team. Volleyball tryouts happened May 7-8 in the wood gym with all the players showing off their skills. Volleyball players have their special abilities being a setter, middle blocker, left and right side, libero, and outside hitter. Our volleyball team is coming off being State Champions.
Spring football is underway as they had a 2-week training camp getting ready for the season. Northlake football went over their new offense and defensive plays. Northlake came off a decent season last year finishing 6-3 and losing first in the playoffs against Saint Thomas Aquinas. The football team has plenty of room for improvement adding a new coach: Coach Dill who will now be helping with the O-Line.
There are many summer camps to go to for every sport this season including football, and volleyball. At Northlake, we have multiple camps for ages 5-14: Football camp June 10-18, Boys Basketball camp June 3-6, Girls Basketball camp June 10-13 ages 5-14. Volleyball camp May 28-31. There is a softball interest camp on May 13th @ 3:30 PM. Coach Chetta’s Wolverine soccer camp June 24-27 @ 9 am-12 pm for ages 5-14. Cheer camp June 17-20 ages 5-14. Baseball camp June 17-20 ages 5-14.
There are many football camps in different states including Mississippi State, Southeastern, and the Mega Camp including colleges from Florida, Ole Miss, USC, Tulane, ULL, and Mississippi College. Volleyball camps at ULL, Milsaps, and Tulane are used to showcase your talent and get recognized by many colleges.
