We’ve all had a bad day or a bad week, sometimes even a bad month. Sometimes sadness drowns us in its depths, consuming our every thought. Though sadness has a huge effect on our mental health, people forget that it also affects us physically. Our hearts are very susceptible to our emotions, especially sadness. Depression, and other negative emotions, strains your heart rate and raises your blood pressure. This causes your body to increase production of cortisol, a stress hormone and also causes a reduction of blood flow to your heart. Other side effects sadness has on your heart is the causation of uncommon tiny blood clots in the heart, hardened arteries, and various other heart diseases.
