Take a moment to recognize 16 year old Vernon Gordon as he died in a shooting on Tuesday at 3:30pm. We want to acknowledge this devastating event that happened at the St. Helena College and Career Academy parking lot. When a 14 year old kid shot at 3 kids in a car, all high school students. Vernon Gordon and 2 others who are unidentified as of now were shot at and 1 died and 2 gravely injured. The cause of this shooting was bullying. According to officer Joe Chaney who is “the chief of operation with SHPSO” said that “so many kids could have been killed yesterday with the amount of bullets being sprayed.” Vernon’s uncle, mother, and father all worked for the school and he was on the football team. The 14yr old was arrested at his home and charged with second degree murder and aggravated second degree battery. He is currently being held in a detention center in Greensburg, La. Officers said “classes will not resume at St. Helena until Tuesday and the football game is canceled.” This is a horrible thing to happen knowing that this is one of our opponents later in the season. We send our prayers to Vernon’s family and all the people who were involved in this shooting.
