The Wildfires in Louisiana are spreading. There are 441 fires all over Louisiana mainly in the Southwest region. The smoke from these wildfires are causing health issues for people and also destroying homes and burning trees. These wildfires are mainly in Beauregard Parish. There have been 2 deaths so far and it has surpassed over 60,000 acres. Louisiana’s Tiger Island fire is the largest in state history at 33,000 acres and burned 20 structures. This wildfire is happening due to lack of rain and extreme heat. As we are getting rain it still won’t stop the world’s largest wildfire in our state.
Everytime it gets drier and more wind comes the more extreme it gets. The Fire Marshal set a mandatory evacuation in the town of Maryville, but it has now been downgraded to a voluntary evacuation. Firefighters from Texas, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Ohio and 3 other states are being sent to help Louisiana. Firefighters are facing flames over 300 ft tall. Governor Edwards said with Labor Day and all the sports approaching there is no barbecuing and if your lawn is dead do not mow it. We need at least 4 inches of rain to get us out of the drought.
