Hurricane Idalia hit Florida’s gulf coast as a category 3 hurricane on Wednesday, August 30th. Winds of 125 mph are cutting power, snapping trees, and causing a lot of damage including a storm surge of 12-16 feet in parts of the panhandle.
Florida is flooded with over 18 inches of water. Hurricane Idalia crossed into Georgia with winds around 90 mph. Then moving into the Carolinas as a tropical storm and bringing life threatening flash flooding. Storm surge could reach 4 feet and rainfall from 2-6 inches. Over 300,000 homes have no electricity in Florida, Georgia, and the Carolinas. At this moment the governor and other emergency officials are still assessing the impact of this storm.
