There needs to be more than one register for the lunch line

We all know waiting in a lunch line can be aggravating. At every school, there are many lunch lines. However, the lines do not necessarily need to be as long as they currently are.

Here at Northlake, we only have one line that goes to one register. This means everyone that did not bring their own lunch to school has to wait in the same line, which in turn cuts into a good portion of lunch–an important time to not only eat, but take a break to socialize and regain energy for the remainder of the day.

There are a lot of people that order lunch from the school cafeteria. Lunch is 40 minutes or less here, depending on the day. We spend about 10 to 15 minutes in the lunch line every day, sometimes longer, depending on where you are in the line or how many people ordered lunch that day.

This leaves you with a short period to actually eat and talk. We also get dismissed a few minutes early every day, which leaves you with even less time for lunch.

A simple solution to give every student more time to sit down to eat and talk to their peers during lunch would be to add another register to make the lines go faster.

If there is any question about where this other register would fit in the cafeteria, a simple solution would be to simply set up the tables further towards the back of the Slim Gym.

This is a simple change, but something many students would like to see happen. Being able to spend a full lunch period recharging instead of standing in line would offer a slight, but significant positive impact for all.
